Clinical Research

Our research department is actively involved in scientific studies of many clinical trials and infectious diseases treatments protocols.

Clinical Research:

The IID Research Department is staffed by a proficient and ethical team experienced in rigorous clinical research. We follow the Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) guidelines set by the International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use, ensuring the reliability and integrity of our research.

Contributions to Landmark Projects:

IID has been actively engaged in landmark projects, particularly in the field of HIV/AIDS. Two noteworthy projects that have significantly impacted the understanding and management of HIV are the TAHOD and START studies.

1. TAHOD - TREAT Asia HIV Observational Database:

The TAHOD project, an abbreviation for “TREAT Asia HIV Observational Database,” is a collaborative endeavour among multiple HIV treatment centers spanning the Asia-Pacific region. The primary goal of this project is to gather and analyze data from individuals living with HIV, with a specific focus on understanding the long-term outcomes and challenges associated with HIV treatment in the Asian region.
IID has been an integral part of the TAHOD project since 2010. Over the years, we have enrolled approximately 14,000 patients into this study, contributing substantial data that covers various aspects of HIV treatment, health outcomes, and quality of life. Our involvement in the TAHOD project has enabled researchers and healthcare providers to gain invaluable insights into the management of HIV within the Asia-Pacific region.

2. START - Strategic Timing of Antiretroviral Treatment:

The START study, which stands for “Strategic Timing of Antiretroviral Treatment,” focused on determining the optimal timing for initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART) in individuals diagnosed with HIV. This strategic approach, based on the findings of the START study and similar research, has influenced healthcare guidelines worldwide.

IID has played a significant role in this global study, actively participating in its progress for approximately a decade, from 2012 to 2021. Our contributions have helped shape recommendations that emphasize early initiation of antiretroviral treatment, irrespective of CD4 cell count, to preserve and protect the immune system, enhance overall health outcomes, and reduce the risk of HIV transmission.
